WriteCamp2!

The Milwaukee Writers Workshop will host its second annual free conference for writers June 5, 2010 at Mercy Hill Church in The Hide House, 2625 S. Greeley St. in Bay View.

Writers of any genre and ability level can hone their skills and fuel their creativity in the workshop’s unique “unconference” environment, where the participants determine the workshop topics and content as the event evolves. Writers can suggest topics now at www.writecampmilwaukee.com, and will be able to initiate and suggest topics during the workshop in a setting created to foster collaboration and spontaneity.

Seasoned writers will appreciate the chance to reawaken their creativity, while newer writers will have the opportunity to learn the craft and network with published and experienced writers. Past workshop topics have ranged from self-publishing, autobiographical writing, poetry and editing to technical, business and resume writing.

This year’s event will feature a slam poetry performance by Brave New Voices, a spoken-word group of young writers based in LA that has performed on HBO and uses hip-hop, voice and dance to express their poetic social commentary.

Writecamp2 will kick off with a party and networking event at 7 p.m. on June 4 at Great Lakes Distillery, 616 West Virginia Street, Milwaukee, followed by a free pancake breakfast at 9 a.m. on June 5 at the Mercy Hill Church in the Hide House. This free event will also include a writers’ raffle and products and services from local sponsors, including 91.7 WMSE, Palms Bistro & Bar and the Wisconsin Regional Writers Association.

Kids with Autism Can

April is Autism Awareness Month and Robinson Writers is very pleased to announce the publication of
Kids with Autism Can: A Photographic Journey.

Written by Katie Murwin, this book is dedicated to her son Nicolas, a 13-year-old boy with autism. The book serves to provide hope for families with children diagnosed with autism. By sharing their journey with other parents, they create an new brand of autism awareness – one that shows what kids with autism CAN do, in a world of books that instead, often focus on what these kids will never be able to do.

A portion of the proceeds from this book will benefit Kids With Autism Can, a not-for-profit organization aimed at helping children with Autism work toward independence through therapy and education.

The book was recently featured on LuLu blog – read about it here.

Please visit the website at kidswithautismcan.org to read stories, learn more about autism and show your support.

The book is available for purchase through the website or here on Lulu.com.

Happy spring,
